Is natural stone good for the environment?
September 23, 2020
At Nature of Marble, we offer a huge range of natural stones – from classic slabs of granite and marble to semi-precious stones like agate and petrified wood. These stone slabs and pavers are beautiful and functional.
But… are they good for the environment?
One major advantage of natural stone is that it’s absolutely simple. It’s made of stone – nothing else. So you don’t have to worry about releasing plastic or microplastic into the environment. You also don’t have to worry about water pollution. Natural stone can be maintained with very gentle cleaners; warm water and dish soap are usually enough.
Some people have concerns about the air-miles involved in importing natural stone. However, if you’re looking for an environmentally-friendly option, you can choose natural stone which has been mined locally. There are marble and granite mines all over the United States, and we stock local stone as well as imported stone at Nature of Marble.
Still not convinced? Natural stone slabs and pavers are also a great environmental choice because they last forever. For example, vinyl or laminate floor tiles might only last 15 years – but stone pavers can last for literally thousands of years. So they use fewer resources and take less of a toll on the natural environment.
